The University of Swat is a university in Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan.

Introduction

On May 29th, 2010, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visited Swat and announced the establishment of a University there. The University came into formal existence vide Notification No. Legis: 1 (7) 08/12723 dated 07/07/2010 by the Honorable Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province Mr. Awais Ahmad Ghani with the prior approval of the President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. Its first Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan (Shaheed) was appointed on 23/08/2010 as the First Vice Chancellor of the University. The Higher Education Department has handed over the two buildings to the University for its Initial Set-up, which are located in Saidu Sharif. Purchase of land for the University’s own campus has been initiated and shall be sorted out soon with the financial help of the provincial government and directives of the Honorable Governor.

Departments

In its first session 2010-11 the university opened the following seven disciplines and has completed two semesters.

In the session 2011-12 one discipline of Software Engineering and four more departments of Zoology, Microbiology and Environmental Sciences at BS level are introduced.
